Upon arrival in Venice, you are met and transferred to your hotel. Later this evening, gather for awelcome reception and dinner with your fellow guests.
Begin with an exploration of Venice's iconic sights, including the Grand Canal, St. Mark's Square, St. Mark's Basilica and the Rialto Market. Devote the afternoon to exploring independently in this city nicknamed La Serenissima for its historic commitment to peace and serenity. You may choose to Ride Like a Local aboard a gondola, or stroll the artists' district of Dorsoduro, taking in views from the Academia Bridge, before returning to your hotel.
This morning, transfer by boat on the Grand Canal to Santa Lucia Station, where you board the Golden Eagle Danube Express, your elegant home for the next eight nights. Cross the three-mile causeway over the Venice Lagoon and onward to the port city of Trieste. Disembark for an afternoon city tour, stopping at the vast Piazza Unita d’Italia and the main town square. Climb the hill to the famous Church of San Giusto, built around a medieval complex that dates to the 13th century. Discover the city’s poignant history through an absorbing exploration detailing the horrors of the Balkan War, which are still evident as you travel past war-torn buildings. Make a special visit to the Tunnel Museum under Sarajevo Airport guided by a local who lived through the 1992–1996 conflict and details what Bosnians faced during the siege of the city. Following a light lunch in Sarajevo, board your train and travel a scenic route to the historic city of Mostar, the crossroads of three religions. Visit a Turkish House and mosque before walking the narrow streets of a bazaar, browsing its fascinating handicrafts. From here, continue to Dubrovnik for a one-night stay.
Today, explore Dubrovnik, a city founded in the 13th century and today renowned as one of the great cities of the Mediterranean. Pass through Ploce Gate to visit the Franciscan Monastery — site of one of the world’s oldest pharmacies — as well as the Old Harbour, St Laurence Fortress and the Rector’s Palace. Savor lunch overlooking the Adriatic Sea, and then enjoy free time to wander the charming, narrow streets. Later, return to your private train, positioned close to the Croatian border in Capljina, and enjoy dinner as you depart toward Serbia.
Arrive this morning in the Serbian capital, Belgrade, the former capital of Yugoslavia. Devote your day to touring this cosmopolitan city set where the Danube and Sava Rivers meet. Its key features include fortifications from Celtic times, medieval tombs and Turkish baths. View the mausoleum of controversial Yugoslavian strongman Josip Tito (nicknamed the House of Flowers) as well as the Town Hall, Republic Square and Knez Mihajlova Street, and Varos Gate. Savor lunch on the train as you roll from Sofia to Plovdiv. The second-largest metropolis in Bulgaria after Sofia, “The City of Seven Hills” is one of the oldest cities in Europe with more than 200 known archaeological sites. This afternoon, explore the Roman Forum and Amphitheatre. Visit the charming Old Town including its medieval walls and Ottoman baths.
This morning, arrive in Istanbul, a fabled city that spans Asia and Europe, to see how east meets west with visits to its many historic sites. Start with the Sultan Ahmet Mosque (the Blue Mosque), one of the most famous monuments in both the Turkish and Islamic worlds. It is a superb creation in the classical Ottoman style and features six towering minarets and an interior decorated with more than 20,000 Iznik tiles. Proceed to Hagia Sophia, built in the sixth century by the Emperor Justinian, and one of the largest basilicas in the Christian world. An English speaking officially licenced lecturer/guide will meet the guests at the exit of the Istanbul cruise pier at 09:00 am, with a sign reading their names, for a private sightseeing tour of Istanbul.
First visit of the day is to the Galata Tower which was built in 1303 by immigrants from Genoa, Italy. While sipping your Turkish coffee there, you will be amazed at the spectacular view of the Golden Horn and the old buildings located on its shores depicting how Istanbul looked hundreds years ago.
The private tour will continue with a visit to the Neve Shalom and the oldest Synagogue in Istanbul- the Ahrida Synagogue, built around 1470 by Jewish immigrants from Macedonia.
Lunch will be served at a local restaurant close to the sites.
The guests will be then taken to the Jewish Museum of Turkey. There is evidence that this building as a former synagogue existed in 1671. However the actual building was re-erected over its original foundations presumably in the early 19th Century. Zulfaris Synagogue has opened its doors as the Jewish museum in 2001. Continue to visit the Balat section, where the Star of David appears.

Edirne is situated in Thrace, in westernmost Turkey on the border of Greece and is known for the Selimiye Mosque, built in the 16th century by the famous architect Sinan. The mosque's main structure comprises 18 small domes dominated by a huge central dome on 8 columns with 3 balconied minarets on 4 sides.

Istanbul: Highlights - 7 hours
The private tour program will start with the Roman Hippodrome that was a colossal stadium housing horse races around which the socio-political life of the Roman capital was centered. In its great days, it was 1575 feet long, 384 feet wide and held 100,000 spectators. It was the site of chariot racing, gladiator fights, circuses, inaugurations and triumphal parades.

In the afternoon, visit the World famous Hagia Sophia (The Church of Divine Wisdom), one of the extraordinary masterpieces in the history of World architecture. When a previous church on this site was burned during the Nikka Revolt in 532, Justinian ordered his architect, Isidorus, to build a structure worthy of his empire. Hagia Sophia was completed in only five years and was dedicated on Christmas Day of 537. The building inspired countless generations by its innovations in weight support and construction techniques and what a dome it was: the popular belief was that ‘the dome was suspended from Heaven by an invisible golden chain’. In reality it was work of men, but a worldly simulator of the Heavens
Finally, visit the Grand Bazaar, more dazzling than any other oriental bazaar, built in 1461 and in service ever since. It contains 3,500 shops employing more than 20,000 people all under one roof. Everything imaginable in the world is for sale here, glittering gold and silver jewelry, antique tiles, leather, and souvenirs. Just seeing and experiencing this fascinating bazaar is a memorable experience.

The Mihrimah Sultan Mosque was designed by "Sinan the Architect" for the favorite daughter of Suleiman the Magnificent, Princess Mihrimah.
Last visit of the day will be to the Sehzade Mosque which was commissioned by Sultan Suleiman in memory of his eldest son by Hürrem, Prince Mehmet, who died the age of 21. It was the first major commission by the Imperial Architect Sinan and was completed in 1548. Mostar is a small historic town in southwestern Bosnia, surrounded on three sides by rugged mountains. Mostar is Bosnia's most famous and popular destination, mainly because of its impressive Ottoman-era historic district and famous Ottoman-built arched stone bridge over the Neretva River gorge. Although quite small, Mostar is the capital of the Herzegovina district.
Since Mostar lies on the trading route between the Adriatic Sea and mineral-rich Bosnian lands, the site was occupied for many centuries prior to Ottoman rule of the region. However, it was the Ottoman Turks who established the present-day town when taking control of the region in 1468. They began building many Ottoman-style buildings, Turkish-style mosques and large private mansions for wealthy citizens. Their most-acclaimed architectural structure is the arched stone bridge, Stari Most, built in 1566.
Like nearly every town and city in Bosnia, Mostar was badly damaged by the 1990s regional wars. Many historic mansions and buildings, private homes and all of Mostar's bridges were completely destroyed. A major incident in Mostar took place in 1993, when Bosnian Croats began a 10-month siege of the Muslim quarter of the city, rendering its landmark, stone-arch bridge, Stari Most, and mosques to rubble.
Fortunately, Mostar has been able to rebuild, in great part thanks to various international organizations and governments contributions. The reconstruction of Stari Most (the Old Bridge) has been completed and it is well worth a visit. On the other hand, many large buildings have been left in states of destruction, complete with bullet and grenade holes, providing a stark reminder of the devastation. Rebuilding of the city continues, and tourists are warmly welcomed.
The annual bridge jumping competition from Stari Most into the Neretva River below is famous throughout the regions. Having taken place for more than four centuries, this competition attracts both swimmers and spectators from all over Europe.

Sarajevo is one of the most historically interesting cities in Europe. Today the city has physically recovered from most of the war damage caused by the Yugoslav Wars of the early nineties. Sarajevo is a cosmopolitan European capital with a unique Eastern twist that is a delight to visit. The people are very friendly, be they Bosniak, Serb, or Croat. There is very little crime, not nearly as many tourists as on the Dalmatian coast and a wealth of architecture (not to mention history) to see.
The capital and modern city of Skopje has everything that any other capital city can offer—fabulous churches, mosques, excellent museums, galleries, shopping, concerts, theater, opera, ballet and even casinos—but all on a smaller scale. And one of its greatest highlights is the biggest and oldest Turkish bazaar in Europe, originally rivaling the one in old Baghdad.
Skopje sits on the banks of the Vardar River, and much of its modernity is the result of an earthquake that leveled large sections of the city in 1963—the clock in the railway station has been preserved, forever stopped at 5:17 am, the moment when the quake struck. Fortunately for visitors, much of the old town survived. Cross the 11 arches of the Stone Bridge, built by the Turks in the 1400s, and you will find cultural and historical monuments that span centuries. Especially notable are the 15th-century Daud Pasha Turkish Baths, the largest in the region. But don't plan on getting your feet wet—today, the City Art Gallery occupies the premises. For a nice overview of the city, climb to the Kale Fortress, a ruined castle. Then visit the nearby Church of Sveti Spas (note the beautiful iconostasis). In the Mosque of Mustafa Pasha, look for the cracked dome caused by an earthquake.
A day trip can also be made to man-made Lake Matka, where you'll find a fantastic 22-mi/35-km canyon with a cliff-side footpath and numerous old churches surrounding the lake.
